How a Hospitality Disruptor Rebranded and Secured Funding Coverage

Roami’s Challenge

Roami – formerly Sextant Stays –  is a next-generation hospitality brand that combines the professionalism of hotels and value of vacation rentals. On average, Roami’s spaces are six times larger than a typical hotel room and are purposefully designed for urban group travel. By managing the entire building, Roami has complete creative control to design a tech-enabled guest experience that inspires human connection.

In 2023, Roami enlisted Carve to develop a comprehensive PR plan to announce the company’s rebrand (name change) and $14 million Series A funding round. The goal was to storytell around the evolution of the brand and how the funding will be used to support its strategic vision, disruption in the hospitality industry, and expansion into new markets.

The Carve Solution

The program’s objectives were multifold: to establish Roami as the next-generation hospitality company, increase brand awareness, and secure meaningful feature articles that amplify the brand’s story. Knowing we had to maximize this important moment in time for Roami before the news became “outdated,” Carve developed a robust PR plan and hit the ground running. Carve started by pre-pitching the rebranding and funding news under embargo to key reporters within South Florida, business, STR (short-term rental), real estate, and hospitality trade outlets.

Our approach highlighted Roami as an industry disrupter and used the rebrand and funding as pillars of the company’s continued success. Carve secured feature stories within TechCrunch, Rental Scale-Up, and South Florida Business Journal, among others.

  • Despite inflation on the rise, the demand for travel shows no signs of slowing down in 2023. According to the US Travel Association, travel spending totaled $97B in December—7% above 2021 levels. With COVID changing the way travelers roam the world and opening doors to even more innovation, a flexible lifestyle and new behaviors, the travel industry needs to adapt to these new realities.

  • With travelers frustrated by traditional hotels and costly Airbnbs, Roami is meeting travelers where they’re at and transforming the way people travel. Having full creative control over buildings, in addition to incorporating cutting-edge tech and inspiring a human connection is what sets this company apart from its competitors.

  • With South Florida’s growing tourism and housing market, Roami is a local, fast-growing, company that’s elevating the Miami tech scene.

  • “When you first start a company, success is important to you for an obvious reason: It’s your livelihood. As you begin to grow, that balance shifts to the welfare and livelihood of your co-workers and partners, and their families,” King-Geovanis says. “Roami has over 250 co-workers, vendors, and landlords who rely on our success. In our current stage, where we’ve reached relative stability, that reason is now gravitating towards our mission: inspire human connection.”
